Zendaya Stuns in Custom Maison Margiela at Met Gala 2024
Zendaya’s highly anticipated return to the Met Gala was a fashion spectacle like no other, with the star and her longtime stylist Law Roach delivering a show-stopping appearance.

After a five-year absence, Zendaya returned to the Met Gala as an event co-chair, dazzling in a custom Maison Margiela creation by John Galliano. The deep blue-and-green peacock-inspired gown paid homage to a haute couture look Galliano created at Christian Dior in 1999. Adorned with metallic birds, berries, and vines, topped with a towering feather headpiece tucked into a hand-painted forest-green beret by milliner Stephen Jones, Zendaya’s ensemble perfectly matched the red carpet theme “The Garden of Time.”

She even sported the iconic Margiela makeup to match, with thin brows, dramatic eyes, and doll-like skin reminiscent of the fashion house’s acclaimed couture show in January.
But Zendaya didn’t stop there. In a surprise move, she unveiled a dramatic second look later in the evening — a black taffeta gown from Givenchy by Galliano’s spring/summer 1996 collection, sourced from the Beverly Hills vintage clothing store Lily et Cie. The dress, which Zendaya bought herself, was a significant piece from Galliano’s first collection for Givenchy.
More than just a fashion statement, this look symbolized “an investment in herself,” according to Lily et Cie founder Rita Watnick. “It says, ‘I am not an emissary for a brand. I am my own emissary.'”
Completing the ensemble, Zendaya and Roach accessorized with a headpiece crafted from a bouquet of around two dozen roses, designed by Philip Treacy for Alexander McQueen’s spring/summer 2007 collection.
Zendaya, alongside her self-proclaimed “image architect” Law Roach, has long been celebrated for her Met Gala looks. In 2019, Roach transformed Zendaya’s Tommy Hilfiger gown on the red carpet itself, using a wand to light up the skirt of her dress.
