Wayanad Tragedy: Union Minister visits Wayanad amid ongoing flood and landslide rescue efforts, Army building temporary bailey bridge in Chooralmala
In response to the severe flooding and landslides in Kerala’s Wayanad district, Union Minister George Kurien conducted a visit to the affected region on Wednesday. The visit aimed to review the ongoing rescue and relief operations and to meet with those displaced by the disasters.
Naval aviation assets have been instrumental in the response, providing critical support for the transportation of State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams and state administration officials. Multiple aircraft remain on standby at Thiruvananthapuram, Sulur, and Thanjavur to facilitate air rescues if needed.
In addition to the air support, medical aid is being supplied through the ECHS Polyclinic in Kalpetta, which is offering the services of doctors, nursing assistants, and ambulances to aid in the flood relief efforts.
On Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced a relief package for the victims, including an ex-gratia payment of Rs 2 lakh to the families of those who lost their lives in the landslides and Rs 50,000 for the injured.
Minister Kurien’s visit underscored the government’s commitment to addressing the immediate needs of the affected communities and coordinating a comprehensive disaster response.
