US embassy issues security alert for American nationals in Bangladesh
The US Embassy in Dhaka has issued a security alert for American citizens residing in Bangladesh. The alert, posted on the embassy’s official website, highlights the increasing frequency of protests, demonstrations, marches, and gatherings across the country.
The embassy warned that these events can often develop unexpectedly and urged US nationals to exercise heightened vigilance. The statement noted that a new “total non-cooperation” movement is scheduled to begin on Sunday, August 4, and additional protests are anticipated in the coming days.
In light of the unpredictable nature of these demonstrations and the potential responses from the government, the embassy advised US citizens to avoid participating in or approaching any large gatherings. Those who feel unsafe are encouraged to consider returning to the United States.
The US Department of State has issued a Level 4 travel advisory for Bangladesh, recommending that travelers “Do Not Travel” to the country at this time.
