In Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, tragedy struck on Tuesday as two Malaysian navy helicopters collided mid-air during a rehearsal for a naval parade, resulting in the loss of all 10 crew members on board, according to a statement from the navy.

The incident occurred at 9:32 a.m. local time at the Lumut naval base in the western state of Perak.

All victims were declared deceased at the scene and transported to the Lumut naval base military hospital for identification, the navy confirmed.

A video circulated on local media depicted several helicopters flying in formation, with one helicopter’s rotor clipping another before both aircraft crashed to the ground. Local authorities confirmed the authenticity of the footage.

The navy announced plans to investigate the cause of the collision.

Defense Minister Mohamed Khaled Nordin stated that the aircraft involved were a maritime operations helicopter and a Fennec military chopper. They were participating in a rehearsal for a parade commemorating the 90th anniversary of the Royal Malaysian Navy, scheduled for Saturday.

Efforts were underway to confirm the identities of the crew members killed, all of whom were under 40 years old, Nordin told reporters.
