The newest participant in the meal delivery market is ONDC: Is it competitive with Zomato and Swiggy?
This is what the Open Network for Digital Commerce, or ONDC, aims to change by eliminating the middlemen between the customer and the business.
In India, there is a duopoly on online meal delivery services between Zomato and Swiggy. Although these platforms quickly bring food from restaurants to your door, they are attacked for adding a “middleman cut” that raises the price.
This is what the Open Network for Digital Commerce, or ONDC, aims to change by eliminating the middlemen between the customer and the business. Currently, the service is available in a few places, including Bengaluru, and it is claimed that ONDC benefits both customers and businesses simultaneously, albeit at the expense of sharing your personal information.
Here is a detailed comparison between ONDC and traditional food or grocery delivery services.
THE ONDC IS NOT AN APP
ONDC is a platform created and developed by the government rather than an app or service. This solution aids in bridging the digital divide between customers and enterprises.
To order food or any other item from a company listed on the ONDC platform, consumers can use partners like Paytm, Meesho, Magicpin, Mystore, Craftsvilla, and Spice Money, which serve as online storefronts.
The ONDC platform receives a modest commission when you order food or a product using an app like Paytm, and the order is then forwarded to the vendor. Similar to how the hotel or company will handle the order, Paytm will also provide the company access to all user information, unlike Zomato or Swiggy.
Businesses and brands must set up their services on ONDC so that all clients in the nation can see them. Please be aware that this service is not only available for the delivery of food and groceries; it may also be used for other services like e-commerce and may even face competition from companies like Flipkart and Amazon.
ONDC faces unique challenges.
Paytm now provides ONDC services such as food, shopping, and home decor.
When we order food from Zomato or Swiggy, or groceries from Amazon or Paytm, these sites will dispatch delivery personnel. When we order a product from ONDC, the restaurant must send its own runner, which presents certain difficulties.
If a restaurant receives several orders at once, it may not be able to serve them all. Similarly, unlike Zomato or Swiggy, ONDC does not disclose information such as estimated delivery time. When it comes to meal delivery, ONDC appears to be less expensive than Swiggy and Zomato, according to posts on social media networks.
