The Karnataka government has invited business entrepreneur Elon Musk to establish operations in the southern state.
In a Twitter post, Karnataka’s Minister for Commerce and Industries, Infrastructure MB Patil stated that his state is the “ideal destination” for Tesla’s entry into India.
“If Tesla considers setting up a plant in India, Karnataka, with its great potential and capabilities, I must say is The Destination,” he added.
“As a progressive state and thriving hub of innovation and technology, Karnataka stands ready to support and provide the necessary facilities for Tesla and other ventures of Elon Musk, including Starlink,” Patil said, tagging Musk on Twitter.
Karnataka, according to Patil, is aiming to be a technology and industrial 5.0 centre to move the state forward in the coming decades.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Tesla and Twitter CEO Elon Musk during his current State visit to the United States and asked him to investigate prospects in India for investments in electric transport and the fast increasing commercial space sector.
Musk, who is also the CEO of SpaceX, told reporters after meeting with PM Modi that he is tremendously enthused about India’s future and that India has more promise than any other significant country in the world.
“I’m thinking about returning to India next year.” “I’m excited about it,” Musk continued.
Responding to reporters’ questions, Musk stated that his automobile firm, Tesla, will be in India “as soon as humanly possible.” “I would like to thank PM Modi for his support, and hopefully, we will be able to announce something in the not-too-distant future.”
Musk responded to a query on Tesla’s presence in India by saying, “We don’t want to jump the gun with an announcement, but it’s quite likely that there will be a significant investment for India in the future.”
In response to a reporter’s question on what changed his mind about Tesla’s investments in India, he smiled and answered, “I have never changed my mind.”
Tesla is scheduled to reveal the location of its new factory by the end of 2023.
Musk also expressed interest in introducing his Starlink services to India. Musk’s firm SpaceX operates Starlink, a satellite-based internet service provider.
India plans to capitalise on the potential of the space sector by bringing in private businesses.
