Suman Kalyanpur is honored by the president.
President Droupadi Murmu presented Suman Kalyanpur with the third-highest civilian honor in India, the Padma Bhushan, on Wednesday during a ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
To present the award to the 86-year-old singer who has trouble walking, President Murmu had to advance.
Kalyanpur contributed her vocals to timeless classics like Naa Naa Karte Pyar Tumhin Se Kar Baithe and Aaj Kal Tere Mere Pyaar Ke Charche.
Her voice was frequently confused with Lata Mangeshkar’s. Beginning in 1954, Kalyanpur’s career reached its apex in the 1960s and 1970s.
In a four-decade career, she recorded songs for motion pictures in a variety of languages, including Hindi, Marathi, Assamese, Gujarati, Kannada, Maithili, Bhojpuri, Rajasthani, Bengali, Odia, and Punjabi.
