SpiceJet delays anger Bengaluru passengers
Over 250 passengers caused a commotion at Bengaluru airport on Wednesday, expressing frustration after enduring a wait of over 12 hours to board a SpiceJet flight bound for Mumbai. Despite the scheduled 5 am departure, by afternoon, passengers had yet to board.
Chaos erupted as disgruntled passengers confronted airline officials, accusing them of failing to provide alternative arrangements despite multiple deadlines. The airline attributed the delay to a reported technical glitch with the Mumbai-bound flight.
Initially, passengers received a rescheduling message indicating an earlier departure. After boarding, they waited for two hours, only to be asked to deplane and return to boarding gate 15. Subsequently, the flight was rescheduled to 12 pm, then 3 pm, and finally set for an 8:30 pm departure.
Passengers, frustrated and seeking explanations, questioned airline staff about the unexplained delays and lack of updates. Some turned to social media, tagging civil aviation minister Jyotiraditya Scindia and the Airports Authority of India.
This incident follows recent operational delays by SpiceJet, including a dispute at Delhi airport over a seven-hour delay for a Patna-bound flight, where the airline claimed passengers were informed of schedule changes the night before. SpiceJet has not yet issued a statement regarding the Bengaluru incident.
