Romanian president withdraws, Rutte unopposed!

Romanian President Klaus Iohannis has withdrawn his candidacy for the position of NATO Secretary-General, effectively clearing the path for Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte. Iohannis had announced his bid, emphasizing his commitment to ensuring Ukraine’s victory in its conflict with Russia and advocating for increased defense spending among NATO members.

Rutte, who has received backing from major NATO powers such as the United States, United Kingdom, France, and Germany, is now the likely candidate for the role. He is noted for his consensus-building skills, which are considered vital for the alliance, especially if NATO-skeptic Donald Trump returns to the U.S. presidency.
