Rohan Bopanna and Matthew Ebden qualify for ATP finals 2024

Indian tennis ace Rohan Bopanna and his Australian partner Matthew Ebden have successfully qualified for the prestigious men’s doubles event at the ATP Finals 2024, set to take place at the Inalpi Arena in Turin from November 10 to 17. This tournament is considered the pinnacle of men’s tennis, featuring the top eight doubles teams and singles players from the ATP rankings.

Bopanna and Ebden’s qualification was solidified following the elimination of Nathaniel Lammons and Jackson Withrow at the Paris Masters, completing the doubles lineup for this year’s finals. The duo has had an impressive 2024 season, highlighted by their victory at the Australian Open, where Bopanna made history as the oldest player to achieve the world No. 1 ranking in men’s doubles.

Their success didn’t stop there; the pair also clinched the title at the Miami Open and reached the semi-finals at the French Open, showcasing their consistent performance throughout the year.

This marks Bopanna’s fifth appearance at the ATP Finals, having previously competed in 2011, 2012, 2015, and 2023. Notably, he reached the finals in both 2012 and 2015, partnering with Mahesh Bhupathi and Florin Mergea, respectively, though he fell short on both occasions.

After a challenging first-round exit at the Paris 2024 Olympics and announcing his retirement from the Indian national team, Bopanna has rebounded strongly alongside Ebden, who also reached the semi-finals at last year’s ATP Finals.

In his debut at the ATP Finals in 2011, Bopanna teamed with Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi, but the Indo-Pak Express did not advance beyond the group stage. With renewed determination and a standout season, Bopanna and Ebden are poised to make a significant impact at this year’s event in Turin.
