RISHI KAPOOR: A veteran star passes away at 67
Rishi Kapoor Indian cinema most versatile actor passed away at the age of 67 after a two year battle with cancer. By 2020, the Film Industry has suffered a major loss. One of the leading hero who has come from the Movie Industry family background working as an Actor, Producer, and Director in the Film Industry and has been able to stamp his own sentiments has left us.
Rishi Kapoor (4 September 1952- 30 April 2020) was an Indian actor, director and producer known for his work in Bollywood. He received the National Film Award for his debut role as a child artist in his father Raj Kapoor’s 1970 film Mera Naam Joker 1970. Kapoor had his first lead role as an adult opposite Dimple Kapadia in 1973 with the film Bobby and received the Film Fare Best Actor Award in 1974. His net worth is more than $40 million.
Rishi Kapoor was born in Bombay in a Punjabi family as Rishi Raj Kapoor. He was the second child of actor film director Raj Kapoor and his wife Krishna Raj Kapoor .He did his schooling with is brothers at Champion School, Mumbai and Mayo College, Ajmer. His is from the family of actors that his uncles Shasi Kaboor and Shammi Kapoor are all actors.
Kapoor Married actress Neethu Sigh in his time of co-star on 22 January 1980. The couple has two children actor Ranbir Kaboor who was born on 28 September 1982 and designer Riddhima Kapoor Sahani who was born on 15 September 1980.
His first ever role in a movie was for Raj Kapoor’s Shree 420, where in the song “ Pyaar Hua,Iqraar Hua”, he is walking through the rain with 2 other small children. That was his first entry of Movie.
Rishi Kapoor played a childhood role of his father in Raj Kapoor’s 1970 film Mere Naam Joker. He had his first lead role as an adult opposite Dimple Kapadia in the 1973 film Bobby. Bobby was one of the biggest hits in India. Only 11 of his 51 hero films and 25 of the 41 multi hero films were successful at box office. Rishi Kapoor had a great time that 51 films as the hero from 1973 to 2000. In 1993 he steps to direct the film Aa Ab Laut Chalen starring Rajesh Khanna, Aiswarya Raj and Akshay Khanna in the lead roles. His last film as a romantic lead was the delayed Karobar realised in 1988 an then The Business of Love in 2000.
In 1970 he won the National Film Award for the film Mere Naam Joker. He received the Film Fare Award for the Best Actor for the film Bobby. Russian Government honoured him in 2009 for the contribution to cinema. In 2016 Rishi Kaboor was felicitated at the opening ceremony of the first BRICS Film Festival by Union Minister of State Rajyavardhan Singh Rethod.
Rishi Kapoor has been in controversies for his comments on being a “beef eating Hindu “social media. His autobiography released in 15 January 2017 “Khullam Khulla: Rishi Kapoor Uncensored” in which he disclosed to get the best actor award for his role debut film Bobby and he paid Rupee 30,000.
Rishi Kaboor was diagnosed with cancer in 2018 and he went to New York City for the treatment. After a successful treatment for over a year, Kapoor returned to India on 26 September 2019. Kapoor was admitted to Sir H.N. Reliance Foundation Hospital in Mumbai on 39 April 2020 after he admitted of having difficulty breathing. He died on 30 April 2020 at 5:20 AM. His wife Neethu Kapoor was at his side in the hospital.
