Renowned film director KG George has passed away at the age of 77. His demise occurred at the Kakanate Old Age Centre, where he had been receiving long-term care due to his advanced age. KG George is best known for directing several acclaimed movies, including “Swapnadanam,” “Irakal,” “Yavanika,” “Adhaminte Variyellu,” “Panchavadipalam,” “Kolangal,” “Lekhayude Maranam Oru Flash Back,” “Mela,” “Ulkkadal,” “Ee Kanni Koodi,” and many others.

His journey in the world of cinema began as an assistant in Ramukaryat’s film “Maya.” KG George’s directorial debut came with the release of “Swapnadanam” in 1976, a film that garnered both the National Award for Best Picture and the State Award for Best Screenplay.

KG George’s final directorial work was “Ilavankot Desam” in 1998, featuring the acclaimed actor Mammootty. In 2006, he assumed the role of Chairman at the Film Development Corporation (KSAFDC).

In recognition of his remarkable contributions to the film industry, KG George was honored with the JC Daniel Award in 2016. His wife, Salma, is the daughter of the renowned musician Papukutty Bhagavatar, and together they have two children.
