Indian shooter Manu Bhaker has made a strong impression in the ongoing Paris Olympics, securing a spot in the final of the Women’s 10 Metre Air Pistol event. Bhaker finished third in the qualification round with a total score of 580-27x.
Bhaker delivered an impressive performance throughout the qualification, starting with 97 points in the first two series, followed by 98 points in the third series. She maintained her form with 96 points in the final three series. The top eight shooters advanced to the finals, with Hungary’s Veronika Major leading with 582-22x and South Korea’s Ye Jim Oh in second place with 582-20x.
However, Bhaker’s teammate Rhythm Sangwan did not advance to the final, finishing 15th with a score of 573-14x.
Earlier in the day, Indian shooters Sarabjot Singh and Arjun Cheema also faced disappointment in the men’s 10 m air pistol qualification. Cheema, with a score of 574-17x, finished in 18th place, while Singh, with 577-16x, ended in 9th place. The top eight shooters progressed to the final, which will take place on Sunday.
India’s shooting campaign had a challenging start at the Paris Olympics, as the 10 m air rifle mixed team events also saw Indian pairs Elavenil Valarivan and Sandeep Singh, and Arjun Babuta and Ramita Jindal, failing to reach the medal matches. Babuta and Jindal finished sixth with 628.7 points, narrowly missing out on the top four, while Elavenil and Sandeep ended in 12th place with 626.3 points.
The 10 m air pistol women’s final will be eagerly awaited as Manu Bhaker aims to build on her strong qualification performance.
