Paris 2024 games
The Paris police bomb disposal team is gearing up for a “considerable challenge” during the Paris 2024 Olympics, collaborating with organizers to establish appropriate bomb-clearing protocols. The central police laboratory’s director, Christophe Pezron, highlighted the two distinct stages of bomb disposal preparations: inspecting Olympic sites before handover and anticipating an increase in abandoned parcels and suspicious packages during the event.
The bomb disposal squad’s recent alerts, including the controlled explosion of abandoned luggage at Montparnasse train station, underscore the heightened security concerns in the wake of recent incidents. The rise in bomb alerts at tourist attractions and the general security alert in France since October has added complexity to preparations. Despite security threats, the government remains committed to the original plan for the Olympic opening ceremony on the River Seine, with no apparent “Plan B” in consideration. Efforts have been ongoing for over 18 months to optimize bomb-disposal intervention levels and ensure efficient organization, emphasizing constant dialogue between security authorities and Paris 2024 organizers.
