Operation in Indian Ocean : Houthis

Yemen’s Houthis carried out six attacks targeting a U.S. aircraft carrier, a U.S. destroyer, and three other vessels in the Red Sea and the Indian Ocean, according to the group’s military spokesperson Yahya Saree on Saturday. The Iranian-backed militia, which controls Yemen’s most populous areas and is aligned with Iran, has been attacking ships off its coast for months in solidarity with Palestinians fighting Israel in Gaza.

Saree stated that the group “targeted the American aircraft carrier, the Eisenhower, north of the Red Sea, with a number of missiles and drones,” marking it as “the second targeting operation against the carrier in the past 24 hours.” He added that other operations targeted a U.S. destroyer and the ABLIANI ship in the Red Sea, as well as “the MAINA ship, which was targeted twice in the Red Sea and the Arabian Sea.”

Additionally, the ship ALORAIQ was targeted in the Indian Ocean. The Houthi fighters’ drone and missile strikes have focused on the Bab al-Mandab Strait and the Gulf of Aden, forcing shippers since November to reroute cargo on longer and more expensive journeys around southern Africa.
