On the other side of peace
On the other side of Peace.’
– Vinitha George.
Within the realm of peace, there exists us, far beyond the absence of violence! However, there are those on the other side, who persistently battle against the tumultuous tides, seeking to carve out a livelihood amidst the ever-present disorder. They navigate through the chaos, their determination unwavering, as they strive to find stability amidst the relentless turmoil.
War is not a game. It is real life ripped in half! Nothing can excuse or justify the act of terrorism, whether it is committed by religious fundamentalists, private militias, or a war of retribution by a government. Killing innocent lives is terrorism in its full definition!
Those torn-up faces of babies—wouldn’t that be enough to melt even the hardest of those minds that control the buttons of mass destruction?
The heart-wrenching pictures of mothers holding their lifeless children, men relentlessly digging through debris in search of their loved ones, and fathers burdened by guilt and despair, wishing their young ones dead rather than facing the consequences, paint a harrowing picture of the war.
As we witness the unfathomable agony that eclipses all other forms of suffering, We see a striking demonstration of intense grief that has no boundaries.
War tears lives apart, leaving scars that never truly heal. War indiscriminately ravages communities, annihilating homes, dreams, and aspirations in its violent path. Innocent children are robbed of their adolescence, forced to grow up amidst destruction, their innocence ripped away prematurely.
According to a news clipping, a father who was the sole survivor of the atrocity expressed his anguish and rage by saying, “I pray to God that whoever fired the missile at my house experiences the same fate as my wife and children.”
‘Violence breeds violence’.
His words resonate with the public, reflecting the shared anger and frustration over the loss of innocent lives and the desire for accountability. This tragic incident serves as a stark reminder of the broader implications of violence and the devastating consequences it can have on individuals, families, and communities.
It is imperative to acknowledge that there is no excuse for war—no justification that can mend the hearts shattered by its cruelty. The biggest misconception is that war holds a semblance of honor or glory. In reality, its face is one of screams, blood, and suffering. No rationale can justify the immense toll it takes on humanity.
We must remind ourselves of the countless lives lost in the dust of battlefields. Sons, daughters, parents, and siblings—once a vibrant part of their communities—are now mourned and remembered through tears and dwindling memories. Their absence is a permanent void that can never be filled, a reminder of the unforgiving nature of war.
As we reflect on the devastation it causes, let us stand together, united in our pursuit of peace. Only then can we hope to silence the drums of war forever.
We have the power to nurture empathy, to see beyond borders, and to resolve conflicts through diplomacy rather than bloodshed.
