Nepal Celebrates Constitution Day with Grand Ceremony in Kathmandu
Nepal marked Constitution Day today with a vibrant celebration at Tundikhel in the Kathmandu Valley, attended by President Ramchandra Paudel, Vice President, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, and various dignitaries. The event featured helicopters showering flower petals, the release of doves symbolizing freedom and peace, and lively cultural performances, highlighting the day’s significance.
In his address, President Paudel emphasized the Constitution’s role in uniting Nepal’s ethnically, religiously, and culturally diverse society, fostering national unity and ending systemic discrimination. He acknowledged the efforts of political activists and the public in the long struggle for a republican system, extending condolences to the martyrs who fought for democracy.
Prime Minister Oli reinforced the importance of the freedoms enshrined in the Constitution, urging citizens to remember the sacrifices made during decades of totalitarian rule. He highlighted that the Constitution, promulgated nine years ago by the Constituent Assembly, was the culmination of a 70-year struggle for democracy and includes provisions for federalism, inclusive representation, and secularism.
The government encouraged citizens to commemorate Constitution Day by hoisting the national flag and celebrating Deepavali by lighting lamps. Additionally, a recorded congratulatory message was played on all phone calls throughout the day, further enhancing the spirit of national pride and unity.
