Mpox case confirmed in Malappuram district, Kerala
A case of monkeypox (now known as Mpox) has been confirmed in the Malappuram district, according to State Health Minister Veena George. The announcement was made on Wednesday through a Facebook post.
The confirmed case involves a 38-year-old man who recently returned from the United Arab Emirates and was admitted to the hospital after exhibiting symptoms associated with the disease. Minister George urged individuals arriving from other countries, especially those with symptoms, to seek medical attention promptly and notify the health department.
In her statement, George highlighted that the Health Department has set up isolation facilities and treatment options for affected patients at designated hospitals. Additionally, she assured that all medical colleges across the state are equipped to handle Mpox cases.
Mpox, which has been a persistent public health concern in various parts of Africa, gained global attention in 2022 due to an uptick in cases. Health officials continue to monitor the situation closely to prevent further spread of the virus.
