Monsoon winds bring heavy rain and avalanches to Nepal

The ongoing monsoon winds continue to shape weather patterns across Nepal, with expectations of partly to generally cloudy skies nationwide today. Over the next 24 hours, light to moderate rain, accompanied by thunder and lightning, is anticipated in various regions. Heavy rainfall is forecasted for select areas in the Koshi, Gandaki, Lumbini, and Karnali provinces.

Nepal’s Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has issued an advisory, urging residents to take necessary precautions to prevent disasters such as floods, landslides, and soil erosion. These adverse weather conditions could disrupt daily life and impact sectors including agriculture, health, tourism, mountaineering, as well as road and air transport.

In a related incident, an avalanche struck the Manapathi Himal in the Dhaulagiri mountain range in Mustang district on Tuesday evening. The avalanche has caused the Bokshikhola to become blocked, posing significant challenges for vehicular traffic along the Beni-Jomsom road, which follows the river’s path. The blockage has created obstacles for transportation in the area, complicating access for residents and travelers.
