The Mariinsky Palace Ukraine is worth seeing as it was built by the architect Bartolomeo Rastrelli in 1744 by order of the Russian Empress Elizaveta Petrovna. Much of it was destroyed in a series of fires and was in complete disrepair for nearly 50 years.
