Manu Bhaker makes history with double medal win at Paris Olympics
India’s star shooter, Manu Bhaker, etched her name into the annals of Olympic history on Tuesday, becoming the first Indian woman in independent India to win multiple medals at a single Olympic Games. Bhaker secured a bronze medal in the 10m pistol mixed team event alongside Sarabjot Singh, defeating South Korea with a score of 16-10.
Earlier in the Games, Bhaker had already made a mark by clinching a bronze in the women’s 10m air pistol event, marking the start of India’s medal tally at the 2024 Paris Olympics. With these two achievements, Bhaker joins an elite group of Indian women, including P.V. Sindhu, who have won two Olympic medals.
This accomplishment places Bhaker alongside Norman Pritchard, a British-Indian who won two medals in the pre-independence Olympics. Pritchard earned silver medals in both the men’s 200m sprint and the 200m hurdles at the 1900 Summer Games.
Bhaker’s outstanding performance underscores her remarkable skill and determination, continuing India’s tradition of excellence in shooting sports.
