Kolkata metro’s new orange line
The eagerly anticipated Kavi Subhash–Hemanta Mukhopadhyay stretch of the Orange Line on Kolkata Metro is in the final stages of preparation. Currently undergoing trial runs, the metro has completed five successful round trips, assessing crucial factors like track conditions, power supply, and staff efficiency. Set to open to the public by January 2024, the stretch has received approval from the Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS), ensuring compliance with safety protocols.
The Orange Line extension covers three stations: Satyajit Ray (Hiland Park Area), Jyotirindra Nandi (Metro Cash & Carry and Ajoy Nagar Area), and Kavi Sukanta (Abhishikta Crossing Area). To enhance passenger convenience, a single-ticket system allows seamless travel from the Blue Line to the Orange Line, with fares ranging from Rs 20 to Rs 45. This expansion aligns with Kolkata Metro’s ongoing efforts, following last year’s opening of the Joka to Taratala stretch on the Purple Line, reinforcing its role in the city’s transportation network.
