Kohli, Rohit retiring after T20 WC 2024

New Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has unveiled the squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024, with Rohit Sharma set to lead the team and Virat Kohli taking on the anchor role in the prestigious event, which is scheduled to be held in the USA and West Indies.

However, reports suggest that this tournament could mark the end of their T20I careers.

According to sources close to Sportstak, both Kohli and Rohit are expected to retire from T20I cricket after this tournament.

With 151 and 117 T20I matches respectively, Kohli and Rohit have accumulated 3974 and 4037 runs each. Following India’s defeat in the T20 World Cup 2022, they have only played one T20I series.

Team India will commence their T20 World Cup 2024 campaign against Ireland. Placed in Group A, alongside arch-rivals Pakistan, USA, Canada, and Ireland, India will progress to the super 8 stage after the group matches.

In addition to Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant has made his return to the international scene after recovering from injuries sustained in a near-fatal accident while driving back home from New Delhi.

However, Mohammed Shami will miss the series due to injury, with Mohammed Siraj set to join ace speedster Jasprit Bumrah in leading the bowling attack.

Shivam Dube has also been included in the squad following his performance in the last T20I series against Afghanistan.
