Kamala Harris campaign shatters fundraising records with $361 million in august
In a stunning display of financial might, Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign raised an unprecedented $361 million in August, a figure that far outpaces her Republican rival Donald Trump’s $130 million haul for the same period. This surge brings Harris’ total cash reserves to an impressive $404 million as she heads into the final stretch of the 2024 election cycle, according to a CNN report.
The substantial fundraising total not only eclipses Trump’s reported $295 million in campaign funds but also underscores the extraordinary impact of Harris’ recent candidacy. Her campaign has energized donors to a remarkable degree, highlighting a significant shift in the 2024 race. The August figures mark the largest monthly fundraising total for either party this election cycle.
At the current rate, Harris is on track to raise over $1 billion between her emergence as the de facto Democratic nominee in late July and Election Day. Since President Joe Biden’s withdrawal from the race on July 21, Harris has already amassed over $615 million, with last month’s total surpassing the $310 million raised in July. The excitement surrounding her selection of Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as her running mate and her formal nomination acceptance at a high-profile Chicago convention contributed to the record-breaking figures.
Despite the impressive August haul, it falls short of the $383 million record set by the Biden-Harris campaign in September 2020. Meanwhile, Trump’s campaign experienced a fundraising slowdown, collecting slightly less in August compared to the previous month.
Earlier reports indicate that some of Trump’s largest fundraising days occurred in May, coinciding with his felony conviction in New York, surpassing the sums raised during his party’s July nominating convention.
Harris’ campaign is channeling its substantial funds into voter outreach efforts, including a planned “weekend of action” featuring 2,000 events. Additionally, a $370 million digital and TV ad campaign will run through Election Day. The campaign has established over 312 offices in partnership with the Democratic Party and employs more than 2,000 staffers across key battleground states. Despite these robust resources, campaign officials anticipate a closely contested race in the coming months.
