By establishing a robust fiber network across the state, high-speed internet will be made available to homes, government offices, and commercial establishments throughout Kerala. The first phase will focus on providing internet services to economically disadvantaged households and over 30,000 government institutions.
The inauguration of the KFon project will take place at the R Sankara Narayanan Thampi Hall in the Assembly Complex on June 5th at 4 pm, with Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan leading the ceremony. Finance Minister KN Venugopal will launch the K Fon commercial webpage, while the mobile application will be unveiled by Local Self-Government, Rural Development, and Excise Minister MB Rajesh. Additionally, Minister of Electricity Department K. Krishnankutty will release the K Fon Modem.
During the inauguration, the Chief Minister will engage in an interactive session with selected K FonĀ customers, including an economically backward family, individuals from the Wayanad Pantaladinu tribal colony, school students, and a chosen government institution.
Dr. Santosh Babu IAS (retd), Principal Secretary/Managing Director of KSITL & K Fon, expressed that the objective is to provide affordable, high-speed internet connectivity to all residents and government entities in Kerala at the earliest. Dr. Santosh Babu emphasized that enabling everyone to enter the digital world will contribute to the overall progress of society, expressing pride in being part of such a meaningful endeavor.
In the initial phase, K Fon connections will be provided to 100 households in each assembly constituency, based on the list submitted by the local self-government bodies. K Fon has already established the necessary IT infrastructure to offer approximately 4 million internet connections across Kerala. Customers can enjoy internet services starting from 20 Mbps speed, with the flexibility to increase the speed as required.
Presently, installation has been completed, and internet services are operational in 17,354 out of 26,492 government offices. The K Fon authorities aim to provide connections to all government institutions based on the updated list received by the end of June. K Fon already has over a thousand customers, having completed the necessary cable laying work for more than 7,000 homes. The first phase is expected to be completed by August 2023, with plans to extend commercial connectivity. Around 250,000 commercial connections are estimated to be provided in the first year. K Fon officials are confident that this project will yield profitable outcomes.
