Japan lifts Tsunami advisory following earthquake near outlying Islands”
The USGS recorded the earthquake as the strongest with a magnitude of 6.1, occurring at a depth of 10 km. Japan issued a tsunami advisory on Thursday, October 5, 2023, following this powerful earthquake near its Pacific outlying islands but rescinded it approximately two hours later. Fortunately, there were no reports of damage. This advisory, which is part of a four-stage warning system, was the second-lowest level and instructed residents on the Izu chain islands, extending south from the Tokyo area, to remain clear of coastal areas and river mouths.
