India signs Rs 32,000 crore deal with the U.S. for 31 MQ-9B predator drones
In a significant boost to its defense capabilities, India has signed a deal worth Rs 32,000 crore with the United States to acquire 31 MQ-9B Predator drones. This agreement also includes the establishment of a maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) facility within India.
The Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) approved the acquisition last week, marking a key development in India’s efforts to modernize its military capabilities. According to the agreement, the Indian Navy will receive 15 drones, while the Indian Air Force and the Army will each be allocated eight drones.
Negotiations for this crucial deal have been underway for several years, with final hurdles overcome during a recent Defence Acquisition Council meeting. The introduction of the MQ-9B drones is expected to enhance surveillance and operational readiness for the Indian Armed Forces.
The drones are set to be deployed at several strategic locations, including the INS Rajali naval air station near Chennai, Porbandar in Gujarat, and Sarsawa and Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh, bolstering India’s aerial capabilities across various operational theatres.
This acquisition underscores India’s commitment to strengthening its defense ties with the U.S. and advancing its technological capabilities in modern warfare.
