Malayalam Book: “Charitram Velichathilekku: Sree Chitra Gadha” Unveiled at Levee Hall at Thiruvananthapuram
Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala: November 11, 2023: In a glittering ceremony at Levee Hall, Thiruvananthapuram, the much-anticipated Malayalam translation of “History Liberated: The Sree Chitra Saga” by Princess Aswathi Thirunal Gouri Lakshmi Bayi, a member of the esteemed Travancore Royal Family, was unveiled. The translated work, titled “Charitram Velichathilekku: Sree Chitra Gadha,” offers a unique insight into the historical intricacies of the Travancore Family. This work strives to encompass a decisive period of Travancore’s significant history, its rulers and royalty of the period under survey. It includes the cyclonic changes that swept across India, particularly affecting its hundreds of monarchies and the ancient identities of many domains, with focus on fair Travancore. It covers a formidable canvas of time, starting even before the births of the two royal cousins, Maharanies Setu Lakshmi Bayi (who later became the Regent) and Setu Parvathi Bayi (who became the mother of a Maharaja), to the time Sree Chithira Thirunal moves on to the feet of Sree Padmanabha Swamy, his adored God and Master.
Authored by Princess Aswathi Thirunal Gouri Lakshmi Bayi, the book’s translation was expertly handled by the accomplished Dr. Mini John. The grand re-release ceremony was presided over by Princess Pooyam Thirunal Gouri Parvathy Bayi, another distinguished member of the Travancore Royal Family. The inaugural copy was presented to TP Sreenivasan, a former Ambassador and Permanent Representative of India to the United Nations, adding a diplomatic touch to the event.
Prominent personalities in attendance included Prince Marthanda Varma, Prince Aditya Varma (Travancore Royal Family), Prince Ramavarma of Kilimanoor Palace, Dr. B Govindan, Chairman of Bhima Jewellers, and Dr. Mini John, the renowned translator. The event was also graced by various other invited dignitaries and famous personalities.
The ceremony not only marked the release of a profound historical narrative but also served as a vibrant celebration of Kerala’s cultural heritage. The convergence of literary, royal, and diplomatic luminaries created an evening steeped in the richness of history and the arts.
