High profile accounts face cyber attack :TikTok
TikTok announced on Tuesday that it successfully thwarted a cyberattack targeting high-profile accounts, including CNN. The number of compromised accounts was minimal, and TikTok has strengthened its security measures to prevent similar incidents, according to a spokesperson.
“We have taken action to stop this attack and prevent future occurrences,” the spokesperson said in response to an AFP inquiry. “We are working directly with affected account owners to restore access if necessary.”
TikTok did not disclose the specific exploit used by the attackers, but media reports suggest it involved a direct messaging feature. CNN brought the attack on major brand and celebrity accounts to TikTok’s attention, the spokesperson added.
“We have been working closely with CNN to restore their account access and implement enhanced security measures,” the spokesperson said. News site Semafor first reported that CNN’s account was compromised last week, leading the network to suspend its TikTok presence for several days.
