Heavy rain causes flooding across Kathmandu valley
Kathmandu Valley has been severely impacted by widespread flooding following torrential rain that persisted throughout Tuesday night. Various rivers in the region overflowed, inundating multiple areas and disrupting daily life.
The heavy rainfall led to significant flooding, submerging parts of the Kathmandu Valley, including the riverbank areas such as Balkhu, Bafal, Dhobikhola Corridor, and Sundarighat. The deluge has led to extensive waterlogging across these locations.
In response to the disaster, rescue operations have been underway. A total of 12 individuals from Kathmandu district and 24 from Lalitpur district have been rescued from the flood-affected areas. In Lalitpur, the rescued include two from UN Park, eight from Sundarighat, one from Balkumari, seven from Chagathali, and six from Mahalaxmi Ram Mandir area.
The Armed Police Force (APF) of Nepal has successfully rescued 15 individuals trapped in the Radha Swami area of Sundarighat using tubes and ropes. Security personnel have been deployed throughout the valley to assist with rescue efforts as the area remains submerged.
Additionally, the Kaligandaki Corridor roadway has been rendered impassable due to landslides triggered by the continuous rainfall. The situation remains critical as emergency services work to manage the fallout from this severe weather event.
