Ryan Gosling Reflects on ‘La La Land’ Scene Regret: ‘Hamburger Hands
In a recent interview with the Wall Street Journal, Ryan Gosling, the star of the critically acclaimed film “La La Land,” opened up about a scene that still bothers him to this day. Despite the movie’s success both with critics and at the box office, Gosling revealed a moment from the film that haunts him.
During a pivotal dancing scene with his co-star Emma Stone, Gosling admitted that he made a decision that he now regrets. “There’s a moment that haunts me where we’re dancing, Emma and I,” he shared. “I didn’t know this would become the poster for the movie.”
Gosling explained that in the scene, their hands were supposed to be pointed up in the air, but he decided to flatten his hand instead. Despite being advised otherwise, Gosling opted for his unconventional hand gesture. “Now when I look at it and I have to see it all the time, you know what would have been cooler than this?,” he reflected, gesturing with his hand pointed upward. “That.”
He jokingly referred to his mistake as “La La Hand” and expressed surprise when the interviewer informed him that dancers call it “hamburger hands.”
Furthermore, Gosling, who believed his background in dance would aid him in the film, humorously acknowledged that it didn’t quite go as planned. “Then, of course, ‘Hamburger Hands Gosling’ over here,” he quipped. “It didn’t help me at all in the end.”
Despite his regrettable moment, “La La Land” remains a beloved film, earning accolades for its captivating performances and enchanting musical numbers. However, Gosling’s confession sheds light on the behind-the-scenes decisions and challenges that even the most celebrated actors face.
