French president confirms Paris Olympics opening ceremony on river Seine amidst security concerns

In an exclusive TV interview with France 2 on Tuesday, July 23, President Emmanuel Macron affirmed that the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympics would indeed take place on the iconic River Seine. Scheduled for Friday, July 26, the event has raised concerns regarding security in the midst of a tense global context. President Macron acknowledged these doubts, revealing that a contingency plan, referred to as ‘plan B’, has been prepared to ensure the smooth execution of the ceremony.

During the interview, Macron also addressed the potential attendance of prominent figures. Despite his differing views with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Macron extended a welcoming gesture, stating that Netanyahu would be honored to attend the ceremony in Paris if he chose to do so.

Additionally, Macron expressed enthusiasm about the prospect of Canadian singer Celine Dion gracing the event with her presence. He described Dion as a “huge artist” and emphasized that her attendance would be greatly appreciated at the grand spectacle.

The opening ceremony marks the commencement of the Games on July 26, featuring a procession of thousands of athletes and performers along a 6-kilometer stretch of the River Seine. The event is anticipated to be a showcase of cultural diversity and athletic prowess, highlighting the spirit of unity and celebration that embodies the Olympic Games.
