Engineering placements reach 5-year high

In the academic year 2022-23, the placement scenario for engineering courses reached a remarkable five-year high, with 80.9% of graduates securing employment, as per data from the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). This marks a significant increase compared to the 2018-19 figure of 48.9%, as well as a notable improvement from the post-pandemic years of 2020-21 and 2021-22, where placement percentages stood at 62% and 62.9%, respectively. The surge in placements is attributed to the broader opening of the job market after the pandemic, allowing companies to hire more freely, and increased accessibility for students to pursue job opportunities.

The undergraduate level witnessed a placement percentage of 89.51% in 2022-23, with 427,984 out of 478,096 students finding employment. The positive trend continued at the postgraduate level, highlighting a favorable employment landscape for engineering graduates. The AICTE’s internship portal also played a role in boosting placements by providing students with a platform to explore internship opportunities and connect with recruiters from various sectors. The increased focus on internships contributes to students’ practical exposure and enhances their employability in the competitive job market.
