Earthquake Hits Philippines
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology reported that an offshore earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 6.0 struck Leyte province in the central Philippines. The quake occurred at 6:16 p.m. local time at a depth of 8 km, approximately 32 km southeast of Dulag, a coastal town, according to Xinhua news agency. The institute warned that the tectonic quake is likely to produce aftershocks and may cause damage. The tremor was felt in various parts of the province.
The Philippines, an archipelago, experiences frequent seismic activities due to its location along the Pacific “Ring of Fire.”
