Dubai’s Emirates Airlines bans pagers, walkie-talkies after Lebanon attacks
Emirates Airlines has implemented a ban on pagers and walkie-talkies for all passengers traveling to, from, or via Dubai. This decision follows a series of deadly attacks last month involving explosive communication devices linked to the Lebanese group Hezbollah.
In a statement released on its website, Emirates confirmed that all such devices are prohibited in both checked and cabin baggage. The airline emphasized that any items found in violation of this policy will be confiscated by Dubai Police as part of enhanced security measures.
The September attacks involved thousands of booby-trapped Hezbollah pagers and numerous radios, which detonated in a series of coordinated strikes. While these incidents have been widely attributed to tensions with Israel, the Israeli government has not formally claimed responsibility for the attacks.
In addition to the ban, Emirates Airlines announced that flights to Iraq and Iran will remain suspended until Tuesday, while services to Jordan are set to resume on Sunday. Flights to Lebanon are also on hold until October 15, in light of increasing Israeli military actions against Hezbollah, particularly near Beirut’s airport.
The heightened security landscape has prompted several other airlines to suspend flights to Beirut and various regional airports, reflecting the escalating tensions in the area.
As the situation continues to evolve, Emirates Airlines urges all travelers to stay informed and comply with updated travel advisories.
