Bayern Munich fined 150,000 euros after fans disrupt Cup game with flares, fireworks
Bayern Munich have been handed a €150,000 fine by the German Football Federation (DFB) following an incident during their 4-0 victory over SSV Ulm in the DFB Cup on August 16. The fine comes after Bayern supporters set off flares and fireworks in the stadium, causing a temporary interruption to the match.
According to the DFB, the incident occurred in the 46th minute when at least 70 flares and four firework batteries were ignited by Munich fans. Some of these devices were directed towards the pitch, creating heavy smoke that forced a three-minute stoppage in play. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, but the disruption was significant enough to draw the attention of the governing body.
Bayern Munich have accepted the ruling and have been given the option to allocate up to €50,000 of the fine towards security and violence prevention measures, which must be verified by the DFB by June 30, 2025.
The club, currently leading the Bundesliga, will next face Bayer Leverkusen, the reigning German Cup holders, in the last 16 of the competition on December 3. The clash promises to be a thrilling encounter as Bayern look to maintain their strong form and defend their title ambitions.
