Anya Taylor-Joy shines at red carpet
George Miller’s “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga” received an enthusiastic response following its premiere at the Cannes Film Festival 2024. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the fifth installment in the action franchise garnered a 7-minute long standing ovation at the Grand Lumiere Theatre. Cast members Anya Taylor-Joy, Chris Hemsworth, and director George Miller were present at the event.
The report highlighted the warm reception for “Furiosa” at Cannes, noting that both Chris and Anya greeted fans outside the theatre and took selfies with them. Anya stunned in a champagne-colored Dior ball gown complemented by Tiffany & Co. jewelry, while Chris opted for black trousers paired with a white jacket and shirt, sans tie, which slightly deviated from the Cannes dress code. Following the premiere, the trio stood up, exchanged smiles, and embraced each other. Baz Luhrmann, director of “Elvis,” who was also in attendance, shared a hug with George Miller.
Furiosa has Anya take over the role played by Charlize Theron in 2015’s Mad Max: Fury Road. Chris plays a demented warlord in the action spectacle. It is set a decade before the 2015 release.
The official synopsis of the film, as per the Cannes Film Festival website, reads: “As the world fell, young Furiosa is snatched from the Green Place of Many Mothers and falls into the hands of a great Biker Horde led by the Warlord Dementus. Sweeping through the Wasteland, they come across the Citadel presided over by The Immortan Joe. While the two Tyrants war for dominance, Furiosa must survive many trials as she puts together the means to find her way home.”
Mad Max: Fury Road had also opened to wide acclaim in 2015 and ended up winning 6 Oscars, including Best Film Editing, Best Production Design, and Best Costume Design.
Furiosa will release in Indian theatres on May 23.
